After ten summers the owner asked for a winter-proof extension to her log house. Should it simply grow in its original style and character or grow in a more contemporary way becoming a bigger challenge for architect, engineer and craftsmen plus raising the bar for a building permit in this natural reserve habitat? We got the permit and are now raising the beams for the timber construction cladded with larch and covered with a tin roof, all together growing out of the old straw roof and log facade. Still being off-grid, the energy supply has been renewed and scaled up by latest solar and wind technology including a generator for the coldest and least light period of the years to come, besides of course a cosy fireplace in the new spacious living room.
